Summer is the golden time for vacations. Vacations and the compensation paid for them have an impact on unemployment security. We have compiled instructions and tips for different situations for you here.
Remember to keep your job search active
If you are unemployed, laid off, or working part-time, remember to keep your job search active during the summer in accordance with the instructions of the employment office. If your job search is not active, we cannot pay you earnings-related daily allowance.
Apply for daily allowance in good time
Remember to apply for daily allowance within three months of becoming unemployed or laid off. Also send us any follow-up applications within three months of the start of each application period.
Apply for daily allowance from us even if you think you are not eligible for it, for example because of annual leave.
Mark your annual leave on the application
Apply for daily allowance as normal, even if the application period includes vacation days or related payments.
In the daily breakdown of your application, select “On vacation” for the days you were on vacation.
Although we generally obtain all the necessary income information from the income register, there may be some gaps in the information regarding holiday-related earnings. You can speed up the processing by specifying all holiday-related income information in your application.
How holiday pay affects your daily allowance
We cannot pay you daily allowance if you are entitled to annual holiday pay based on your full-time salary. If, for example, your employment relationship has been reduced to part-time, you may be entitled to holiday pay based on full-time employment. We cannot pay you daily allowance for the same period. If, on the other hand, you receive holiday pay based on your part-time salary, we will take the holiday pay into account in the adjustment. In this case, the holiday pay will be deducted from the daily allowance payable to you. In these situations, it is also possible that the income limit will be exceeded and no daily allowance will be payable.
When unemployment or layoff begins, we can pay you daily allowance only after the waiting period. The waiting period does not include days on which you are not entitled to daily allowance. If you are not entitled to daily allowance for earnings during your annual leave, the waiting period does not apply to that period.
How holiday compensation affects your daily allowance
When your employment relationship ends, you will be paid holiday compensation for any holidays you have not taken during your employment. We cannot pay you daily allowance for the period covered by the holiday compensation paid to you as salary.
